Planning permission secured for a mixed development in the Green Belt
On behalf of United Utilities, we have secured consent for the development, located at a late Victorian water works which is now redundant. It involves the conversion of a pump house and water tower to a house, the refurbishment of a stone cottage and the construction of seven new houses.
The key planning argument surrounds the provision (in the National Planning Policy Framework) for the complete redevelopment of previously developed sites in the Green Belt. We successfully demonstrated that comprehensive redevelopment of this brownfield site can be delivered and that the impact on the Green Belt would be no greater than the existing.
A further compelling consideration is that the new build housing will support the conversion of the pump house and water tower and the refurbishment of the stone cottage. Both these buildings are candidates for the emerging list of locally important heritage assets.
