Grade II listed barn and stables became a landmark children’s centre.
Following on from the refurbishment of the former coach house and café of Caldertsones Mansion, the Grade II listed former barn and stableblock have now been transformed into a series of multi-functional activity and play spaces to provide an immersive, interactive and educational environment for the promotion of reading and Imagineering, together with a small retail facility.
The buildings have been repaired to conservation standards and ‘de-cluttered’ to remove recent additions and partitions and reveal the original structure and clear sense of space.
This exciting project, which began on site in February 2015, is the next phase in Cass Associates’ ongoing work to regenerate the Grade II listed Calderstones Estate as an international centre for reading on behalf of The Reader Organisation.
